According to the brochures, this is the most photographed beach in Maui and I can see why.
The beach is expansive. The sand is extremely soft to the point where you sink in and the water is a beautiful blue-green. There are low trees at the back end of the beach that you can take pictures with for that tropical beach feel.
When I went, the waves were high near the shore so I did not stay long. But it looked like a fun place to boogie board.

Great place to visit. If with a more mature crowd would recommend little beach with optional clothes. Big beach is far more family friendly. The small trail to little beach is quite easy unless elderly. However these factors cannot make me decide what will be more fun for you. Both places do have great beaches and places to set up a picnic or something.

Makena State Park is made up of Big Beach and Little Beach. Big Beach is huge as the name implies and it has a lifeguard tower near the trail from the parking lot. Be careful of the waves here as the shore break is dangerous and the lifeguards are constantly warning visitors to be careful. On weekends you'll find a lot of volleyball players and you can join in a game if you're into it. Walk a little bit further down the beach and climb up over the little hill and you'll be at Little Beach. Often times the waves will be different at Little Beach than at Big Beach. Little Beach is a clothing optional beach so if naked people freak you out best to stay at Big Beach.

I love makena beach and watching the sunsets here! The water color here is beautiful and it's a great place for swimming. The water gets deep quick so it may not be the best for small children. Good place for skim boarding and some smaller surf waves

This beach is one of the best I have ever seen. The sand is white and wide. The tires are calm and the slopes are gentle. On top of that we found parking very easily. If you're into nice and expensive houses then north of the park is your place to look.
