About Us:

Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge.

The "black" water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.

Blackwater lodge, cabins and restaurant are open year-round and welcome visitors to enjoy winter sled riding, spring greening, cool summer evenings, and autumn foliage.

You'll find good food, comfortable accommodations, and WiFi access if you must stay in touch while you're relaxing at Blackwater Falls.

Our conference facilities host reunions, meetings and special occasions as well as catered banquets and receptions. The indoor guest pool and fitness center is popular with our guests.

Tour buses are always impressed with the magnificent views found at the park in all seasons. There is ample parking and there are no entrance fees. The genuine hospitality you experience at Blackwater Falls is also found Canaan Valley area including the towns of Davis and Thomas, W.Va.

Gorgeous, gorgeous state park. I went with my family last fall. It wasn't overly crowded, which was nice. They have a nice gift shop and concession area. The views are outstanding. There's alot of beauty to see there. The deer were so tame they walked right up to our truck to say hello. We got some beautiful pictures!

The most attractive part of the park is blackwater falls. One of the wonders of nature and yes the water is really black. Some streams of falls appeared to be blackish tea colour and for the first time in my life I marveled at the color of water. The falls are very strong. There are different view points of the falls and they looked amazingly beautiful from each view point. The park is a good hiking area as well. As we visited the park during winter could not make the hiking but really could enjoy the black falls. We didn't face any problem in parking and is free

2 hour motorcycle ride each way for me but what an amazing adventure it was. We didn't have long at the park but I'm planning a return visit for sure. Next trip I think I'll come for the weekend and stay in a cabin or lodge so we can spend more time hiking the trails and exploring all this beautiful park has to offer. The bbq sandwich at the lodge was awesome as well, highly recommend!

We love the park, the accommodations are nice, big and bright. We booked this cottage because we wanted a place with a hot tub and a pool. When we arrived a sign said it was not working. We asked for a refund but were refused and the manager had stepped out. We are waiting on a manager to call us and speak with one. The place is beautiful. We would love to stay but after driving 8 hours and specifically booking a place with a hot tub and pool we are disappointed in the treatment that we have received so far. After speaking with the manager the next day everything was great. He was hospitable, understanding and very kind. We would return to this place.

This was a nice stay. Very secluded. The staff is awesome and can't do enough for you. The lodge common areas are nice and cozy and fit the ambiance of the location. The rooms are somewhat dated, bathrooms small and no counter space but, again, the rooms are clean and quiet.
