Beed's Lake is a popular boating spot due to its scenic beauty. Motors of any size may be used at "no wake" speeds on the lake. A modern boat ramp is located on the southern shore of the lake.

Beed's Lake State Park has provided visitors with a variety of recreational opportunities since 1934. One unique feature of the park is the causeway that crosses the lake near the lodge. It provides more than one-third of a mile of great shoreline fishing as well as a convenient pathway for hikers and joggers. Another focal point of the park is the unusual 170 foot-long spillway with horizontal layers of limestone dropping abruptly 40 feet. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

In 1857, T.K. Hansbury built the first dam to supply water for the operation of a sawmill. Two years later, water power was used to operate a flour mill. William Beed put in the long causeway when he bought the property in 1864. He operated the mill until 1903.

Very nice park. The volunteers are very helpful and were there to greet us when we arrived and show us our site. Good area for hiking and bike riding. One grocery store close to us. The restrooms & showers are VERY hot. Well maintained. There are trails that require repellant. We did find nice trails where we could avoid the bugs for the most part. We do not like the center area campsite setup because you are facing your neighbors front door. In the future, we will select a site on the outer edges of the park.

I see a lot of reviews of complaints about this park but it is beautiful at all seasons. I do not camp there or swim there but just take in the beauty of it. This park was constructed in the 30's by the CCC and they did a great job on the dam. People tend to expect too much from a campground.

Nice country setting. Good sized RV sites, the back-in sites are the best! Nice concrete bathrooms with individual showers.

Pretty nice little park. Neat lake and spillway. Hard to tell what it will be like in the summer as trees haven't bloomed yet. Roads are a little rough. Kind of upset when I pulled in Friday night and the bathrooms and showers weren't open yet. They did open them on Saturday. Never did get hit way we in the bathroom. Shower water was warm enough but not by much. Shower room was not heated so it was a little cool as it was kind of cool outside. Train runs by at night every couple of hours and blows it horn.

Made reservations four weeks ago. Mixup with full electric and full hookup when we got there. The frustration was the rude camp attendant. No help, no effort to help, just rude all the way around. In reading reviews, someone else noted rudeness of camp personnel...should have believed them. On our way to Jellystone campground. Lost money and desire to stay in Iowa State Parks.
