A.H. Stephens State Park

456 Alexander Street NW

This pretty park west of Augusta is best known for its equestrian facilities, Confederate museum and lakeside group camp. Horseback riders can explore 19 miles of trails and stay overnight in their own campground.  Overnight guests can choose from lakeside cottages or a modern campground, while large groups can enjoy privacy in the park’s group camp or pioneer campground.

Visitors can enjoy geocaching, fishing and boating, while also learning about a key officer in the American Civil War. Named after the vice president of the Confederacy and governor of Georgia, A.H. Stephens State Park features a Confederate museum with one of the finest collections of Civil War artifacts in Georgia. Stephens’ home, Liberty Hall, is renovated to its 1875 style, fully furnished and open for tours.

This is now our favorite place to ride our horses and camp! The stalls, campsites, and bathrooms were well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the trails-we could have rode without shoes. We will be going back in a few weeks to take our grandson:)

Another one of Georgia's great state parks, especially if you own a horse. Beautiful safe trails to ride and enjoy any time of the year. Really nice stables for your horse and a campground right beside there for you to stay, rest, and keep an eye on your horse. If you are a history buff like me, the house and grounds provide a great opportunity to learn about Georgia and American history. If you like to fish, there's a good- sized lake to put your small boat and wet a hook. Always plenty of trails for hiking and plenty of playground for the kids, including a zip line! The staff at this park are super friendly and helpful. We didn't have time to stay as long as we wanted to, but my grandson and I had a lot of fun. It is close to his house so we will be back soon.

Nice place with well maintained historic buildings, open camping spots, cottages, and nice equestrian facilities. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Our stay in the pioneer area was good, but keep in mind it's winterized in the off season - you'll have to bring in water from the campground side, and the restrooms closest are also closed. Overall we had a great time, and we'll be back in the summer!

I was here for LARP event, and the park as usual was clean. They put in a new footbridge to get to and from cabin area 4! The new footbridge is awesome! Great job!
