We took the state line parking lot where it was located behind a marina storage lot. Park cars on the left side of lot only. There might be room for about 6 -8 cars in lot. Our party was the lone hikers for the day on the trail, the lot leads to the blue trail. Climb up about 700 feet in a miles distance. Then meet up a potion of the AT white blaze trailfor about 1/3 miles and meet up with yellow trail that will loop you around both lakes. Towards the end of the yellow trail, there is a lookout to observe Surprise lake. We observed a half frozen over lake. The yellow trail then meet up with the blue trail again and it was hiking downhill for the next 1/2 miles or so back to parking lot. Note that snow pack was about 6 to 18 inches , the trail was iced over at alot of places. We didn't expect that much snow, fortunately, we have spare dry socks. Bring a soft or hard shell wind jacket for the next few weeks. It was fairly cold at 29 to 38°f. The 3.8 mile hike took us about 6 hours to complete. The downhill portion was more physically demanding between the foot high snow and ice. It was fun. We will try the next time to do the long trail.
